A controlling variable for a thickened tailings scheme design is the beach slope that will be formed by as they deposit. The mainly related to discharge flow rate and slurry rheology. latter will, in turn, dependent on solids concentration of thickener underflow. higher can achieved combining thickening filtration. objective still maintain pumpable self-distributing at storage facility (TSF), rather than having rely trucks or conveyors stacking systems manage ‘cake’, but one deposit steeper alone. use ultra paste has potential broaden range topographic conditions suit discharge. The option when portion separated dewatered more advanced dewatering unit (in this case filter presses). filtered cake then re-mixed with underflow stream. This paper presents study large copper mine which from series thickeners nominal tonnage 3,660 tph 59% would mixed 1,363 80% concentration. combined (ultra paste) discharged equally into two open channels (flumes) 63.5%. The ultimate goal adopting an ‘ultra paste’ produce homogenous consistency tailings, hence proper mixing occur.
